Privacy Policy for Greece Transit
This Privacy Policy describes the policies and procedures of Athanasso (referred to as "We", "Us", "Our", or "Developer") regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of Your information when You use the Greece Transit mobile application (the "Service", or "App").
Interpretation and Definitions
The words of which the initial letter is capitalized have meanings defined under the following conditions. The following definitions shall have the same meaning regardless of whether they appear in singular or in plural.
Collecting and Using Your Personal Data
Types of Data Collected
Greece Transit is designed to provide real-time public transportation information without collecting or storing your personal data on our servers. The App itself does not independently collect or store personal identifiable information like your name, address, or email.
However, the App relies on the following third-party services that may collect data:
- OASA Telematics API (Athens): Used to fetch real-time bus stop locations, route information, live bus positions, arrival predictions, and daily schedules for the Athens metropolitan area. Requests are made to the OASA public API and are not linked to your personal identity.
- OASTH API (Thessaloniki): Used to fetch bus stops, routes, real-time arrivals, and live bus locations for Thessaloniki. Requests are made to the OASTH public API.
- MapTiler (Maps): Used to render interactive vector tile maps with a Google Maps-like style. Map tile requests may include anonymous usage data.
- Google Maps / Google Mobile Ads: The App integrates Google Maps for navigation directions and Google AdMob for displaying advertisements. Google may collect device identifiers and usage data according to their policies.
- Usage Data: Anonymous usage data and crash reports may be collected automatically by third-party tools to help us improve the App's performance and stability.
Permissions Required by the App
To provide its functionality, Greece Transit requests the following permissions on your device:
- Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): Used to show nearby bus stops and calculate distances to stops and lines from your current position. Location data is processed on-device and is not sent to our servers.
- NFC (NFC): Used to scan ATH.ENA plastic cards and paper transit tickets. NFC data is read and processed entirely on-device to display remaining trips and ticket validity. This data is never uploaded to our servers.
- Internet Access (INTERNET): Required to fetch real-time transit data from the OASA and OASTH APIs, load map tiles from MapTiler, serve advertisements via Google AdMob, and open Google Maps for directions.
- Vibrate (VIBRATE): Used to provide haptic feedback during NFC scanning.
Your saved favorites (stops and bus lines) are stored locally on your device using on-device storage (AsyncStorage). This data is never uploaded to our servers.
Advertising
Greece Transit displays advertisements powered by Google AdMob for free users. AdMob may use device advertising identifiers and collect certain data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device's settings. Premium subscribers enjoy an ad-free experience.
Retention of Your Data
Because the Developer (Athanasso) does not collect personal data directly through the Greece Transit app, we do not inherently store personal records. Your preferences and favorites reside entirely on your device. Any aggregated anonymous data and crash logs collected via third-party services are retained only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes of monitoring and improving the Service.
Links to Other Websites and Third-Party Policies
Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. We strongly advise You to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. Furthermore, our third-party service providers have their own Privacy Policies for how they handle data:
- Google Privacy Policy (covers Google Maps, Google AdMob, and Google Mobile Ads)
- MapTiler Privacy Policy
- OASA Telematics
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update Our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify You of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use commercially reasonable safeguards for any systems we operate. Because much of Greece Transit's data stays on your device, uninstalling the App or clearing its storage removes that local information.
Your Choices
- Revoke permissions anytime in your device settings.
- Opt out of personalized ads via your Google account / device ad settings when AdMob is used.
- Delete local App data by clearing storage or uninstalling.
